Abstract
The " story" passed through different stages of development in
both structure and content attracting as such all types of
researchers in the modern Age. This study aims at dealing with
the elements of the artistic construction in the stories of
SaadiAwad Al-Zaidi. It also aims at studying the stories in a deep
analytical way. The study is divided into three chapters, in
addition to an introduction, a prefatory note and a conclusion. The
prefatory note clarifies the meaning of " artistic construction", the
roots of the " story" in Iraq and also a short account of the storyteller(
Saadi Awad Al-Zaidi) himself. The readers need to be
acquainted with his life, the literary positions he held and the
identity of his narrative and critical product.
Chapter One deals with the construction of time and space. It
is divided into two sections: section 1 deals with the techniques of
time in terms of (chronology) and (permanence). Flashbacks and
foreshadowing are the two main techniques used by Al-Zaidy.
Section 2 deals with the construction of the place,its patterns of
spaciousness and longevity (closed and open) and the human
relationship to the place (benignant place vs malignant one).
Chapter Two deals with the construction of the narrative event
and the point of view, in which we talk about the relationship of
the event to other narrative techniques. Section1 is devoted to the
study of the patterns of constructing the event and the patterns on
which the stories of Al-Zaidi are based. These are the successive
pattern, the intervening pattern, and the circular pattern. Section 2
deals with the narrator's point of view, his position and his vision
of the events which involves various visions.
Chapter Three deals with the construction of the character and
the methods of presenting it. Section 1 identifies personality
patterns and its models such as main, secondary, negative and
positive characters. Section 2 sheds light on the way of presenting
such characters to the reader and the extent of mastery of the
