| dc.description.abstract | The objective of this study was to evaluating the biological activity of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Dorema ammoniacum stems against four types of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria: Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus and two types of fungi Candida albicans, Candida krusei. Four bacterial species were collected from microbical Lab the College of Education for pure sciences, as for fungal samples from microbical Lab the College of Science. The study included testing the inhibitory activity of aqueous and ethanolic stem extracts of Dorema ammoniacum stems against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and fungi Different concentrations of Dorema ammoniacum stem extract (100, 200, 300) mg/ml were prepared by measuring the diameter of the growth inhibition zone and using the Agar Well Diffusion Method. The results showed that the ethanolic extract had the highest inhibition zone at a concentration of 300 mg/ml, and the lowest rate of inhibition at a concentration of 100 mg/ml, while the aqueous extract had the highest inhibition zone at a concentration of 300 mg/ml and the lowest inhibition rate at a concentration of 100 mg/ml, And the superiority of the alcoholic extract of the stem of the Dorema ammoniacum plant against bacteria and fungi over the aqueous extract is due to the fact that the alcoholic extract has the ability to extract large quantities of active substances from the plant tissues, On phenols, glycosides, tannins and terpenes. When comparing the effect of anti-bacterialsfor Gram-negative bacteria, it was found that the anti-bacterial CN was more effectiv the rest of the anti-bacterials, As for the anti-fungals, it was found that the antifungal NY was more effective than the rest of the antibiotics in inhibiting the growth of yeasts, and when the cytotoxicity test of the hot aqueous extract towards human red blood cells was conducted, no toxicity was observed for the extract from the stem of the plant throughout the observation period. The results of the inhibition of free radicals DPPH showed the superiority of the ethanolic extract, and the highest inhibition rate was 87.84% at a concentration of 100 mg/ml, followed by the aqueous extract, which recorded the highest inhibition rate of 84.25% at a concentration of 100 mg/ml. We note that the alcoholic and aqueous extracts have high inhibition results and this indicates that the plant has a high activity as an antioxidant. The components of the active substances were detected by the GC-Mass device for the ethanolic extract of the Dorema ammoniacum plant, which amounted to 31 compounds, containing phenols, steroids, amino acids and fatty compounds, the most important of which are OleicAcid,n-Hexadecanoic acid and Artemisia alcohol. The study found the possibility of adopting the Dorema ammoniacum plant from the effective medicinal plants, as it is an important and basic source of effective compounds. | |
